County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister has followed through on the commitments he made to the people of Gwinnett County. He promised to reduce traffic, improve public safety and creates jobs.

He kept his promises.
  • Over $500 million has been spent on reducing traffic congestion
  • 292 new police officers and 245 new sheriff’s deputies
  • Led the successful effort of the Sheriff’s Department entering into the 287(g) program which allows sheriff’s deputies to begin the deportation process on illegal immigrants who commit crimes.
  • Hundreds of new high-paying, high-quality jobs (including a new Hewlett Packard Data Center which will lead to 400 new jobs and Meggitt Defense Systems (400 new jobs).
  • Led the creation of the Department of Economic Development that is partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to attract new companies to Gwinnett.
  • Reduced property taxes on our families
  • Broke ground on the 1st new road in 18 years (Sugarloaf Pkwy. Extension)
  • Used his long-term relationships with state officials to secure an additional $26 million for transportation improvements.
  • Completed over 100 transportation projects.
  • Saw the beginning of the I-85/SR 316 interchange that will be complete by the end of 2008.
  • Renewed the focus on revitalization of parts of Gwinnett by promoting community improvement districts and adding code enforcement officers to the Police Department.

In the next 4 years:
  • Chairman Bannister is currently working on a plan to reduce property taxes on homeowners in Gwinnett. This plan could reduce property taxes by at least 30%.
  • Working with county officials to enact an ordinance blocking illegal immigrants from obtaining business licenses.
  • Ethics reform. In his next term, Bannister will implement a plan that will call on all who lobby for rezoning requests to register with the county.
